SETUP

Indicators for the need of a professional setup include

Fret buzz – Dead notes – Difficulty staying in tune – Strings feel too far from the fretboard – Action too high – Poor tone

A typical guitar or bass setup includes:

  • Adjusting the neck via truss rod
  • Cleaning and or cutting the nut
  • Setting the bridge height
  • Checking intonation
  • Cleaning the frets and fretboard
  • Setting pickup height

Guitar/Bass Setup

Why does my guitar/bass need a setup?

Guitars are made primarily of wood which is sensitive to environmental conditions. Changes in temperature and humidity can cause the wood to expand or contract, affecting how the instrument plays. A proper setup will adjust the guitar’s action and personalize it to your preferences.

When does my guitar/bass need a setup?

We recommend having a setup done on new instruments and generally once or twice a year throughout it’s lifetime. If you’re experiencing fret buzz, dead notes, difficulty staying in tune, or the strings feel too far from the fretboard it’s probably time for a setup.

A typical guitar or bass setup will lower the action (string height) making the instrument easier to play and includes:

– Adjusting the neck via truss rod
– Cleaning and or cutting the nut
– Setting the bridge height
– Checking intonation
– Cleaning the frets/freboard
– Setting pickup height

Fret Work

Fret Ends

Over time you may notice the edges of your frets protruding slightly which can make playing uncomfortable. This happens as necks contract due to changes in humidity. Not to worry though. We can take care of this with a sanding and polishing of the protruding fret ends.

Fret Level

Sometimes a simple setup won’t be able to fix certain playability issues and as frets wear down your instrument may require a fret leveling. This process consists of filing the surface of the frets until they’re all even and then crowning and polishing them.

Electronics

Pickup Installs

Choose from our selection or bring your own. We will out the pickups on your guitar or bass. We’ll make sure everything is wired properly and set right for the best sound and playability.
